Fall syllabus for Personal Curriculum
and other trends TikTok is making me try out
Come September and suddenly there is a nip in the air. Hot humid air is slowly turning into a thing of the past, and making way to cooler, crispier air. It is also back to school season, a time when school re-opens for a new academic year.
On that note, TikTok is buzzing with a new trend, some are calling it the Fall Curriculum, where one can take on ‘studies’ — pick out your favorite subjects, and create lesson plans and ‘ earn grades’ ( for fun).
I am a sucker for getting an A. I will never say never at the opportunity of getting an A. All my school (and college and Grad School) , I have been on a constant quest for getting an A, in curriculum, in extracurricular activities, in everything, basically. So, naturally, I am excited at the idea of grading myself in subjects that I get to choose, and enjoy studying.
First, we choose our core subjects.
For Fall 2025, I am selecting the following Core Classes
Reading Fiction - The Life Impossible - While I had always been reading, this time, I would like to write down my thoughts. I would like to have exercises in interpretation, would like to ‘discuss in 50 words’.
Reading Non-Fiction - I am forcing myself to pick up non-fiction by listing it out here and you guys can hold me accountable! I have selected Grit for September Reading because your girl can use some of that perseverance magic to get herself up in life.
Getting deeper into my Yoga Practice - Showing up on the mat, everyday - some days more gentler than others.
3 Core classes for 3 months, before the Winter break. Lezz Go!
For Electives, I want to work on the following:
Writing TOAT but also journaling every Sunday, have a moment to sit down with my personal reflections, writing down the good things, and things that could have gone better and new things I am looking forward to doing in the upcoming.
Taking out my electric blender and filling up my kitchen with the sweet smell of baking. *sigh*
And, although people are also undertaking long-term projects, I currently don’t have the bandwidth. Hence, I am going to have a Fill-your-own-cup instead.
This involves waking up with the sun, screen-free, also going to bed screen-free.
Going on regular mental health walks.
Trying a Fall Activity.
Will you create a Fall Syllabus for yourself too ? Leave a comment with what you choose and your inspirations.

I enjoyed learning about your interests and how you're organizing them as a personal curriculum!
I work in higher ed as an educational developer, and I'm really interested in how personal curriculum plans are being organized by curious learners. Do you mind if I include this post in a mini, informal analysis project I'm working on? I'm interested in studying posts about personal curricula to see what the common themes are, the process of development, and so on. All with the goal of sharing back what I learned here on Substack :)
